5 out of 5 stars Excellent collection of Ace Attorney art   January 26, 2010

As the title states, this is a compilation of Phoenix Wright art. The illustrations in this book are not only the in game poses and facial expressions, but also full body illustrations and the occasional character in a different outfit sort of thing (i.e. Maya wearing a school girl uniform, Mia in a chinese dress, etc). You will find the artwork of the case title screens as well as some fun not-in-game art.

When compared to other video game related art books out there, this book has a lot more illustrations and variety. I have my fair share of art books and this one far surpasses those; Udon really nailed it with this book and their other artbooks such as Mega Man Complete Works and The Art of Street Fighter.

The cover has a nice texture and the binding is sturdy. The pages themselves are a nice thick quality. Overall, the physical quality of the book is really outstanding.

I believe the only thing that would have made this book better is to have all the extra artwork from the game, such as the group shot at the end of the first game, in-game crime scene illustrations, etc. A lot of the in-game screens did not seem to make it into this book, but again it is still outstanding overall.

I highly recommend it!

I orded this not to long ago. I recieved an e-mail that I might had to wait two months for my product, but then this shop e-mailed me that they shipped way faster than that, and so they shipped my product within two weeks (American buyers, I live in Europe!)
The product is in prefect condition, and it's just what I wanted, the costumer service was very kind and helpfull, if you want to buy anything, buy it from here!

3 out of 5 stars Worth it for fans, but a bit of a disappointment.   January 26, 2010

The title says it all--this really is pretty much just a collection of game art (the poses of all of the characters' emotions), with a few bonus illustrations from promoting the game. I guess I was hoping for a little more, like interviews with designers and the thought process behind coming up with designs, as well as early sketches and rejected ideas for designs. This actually does happen for a small part of the Apollo Justice section toward the end and I was really glad to see it, as that's exactly what I hoped the entire book would be. Alas, most of the book barely has any text at all or any concept sketches.

That said, devout Ace Attorney fans will love having all the art so readily at hand. I just wish it was more like that one section toward the end, an in-depth book about the process of designing the game.

There were also a few major typos. Most of the book was correct, but some glaring typos were hard to miss, like mislabeling one character.

3 out of 5 stars Lacks a bit of depth   February 10, 2010

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R108TGKZ8NJUAO If you're owned other art books published by Udon Entertainment, you'll find the construction of this book similar. This time, the cover comes with a nice texture feel. Inside, it includes art from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney.

In-game character art forms the bulk of the art and there are a few splash art pages. The cast of characters is huge and the variety of character design is really good. There are lots of character poses including a full body illustration. The expressions are lots of fun.

The art is typical manga style but you already know that from the game. I thought the art from Apollo Justice is slightly better, the line work is more confident, quality more consistent with top manga character designers. Maybe that's what they call improvement over time.

Absent from the book are the concept sketches. There are barely any, except for the few from Apollo Justice. Commentary from the designer Kuzuya Nuri can be found only on the few pages of splash art with the rest of the books with the characters just feature a single paragraph character description. As a result, the book lacks a bit of depth.

I would recommend this book for the fans only.

3.5 out of 5 stars.
